FAQ:
What is the Youth Advisory Council?
The Youth Advisory Council is a peer-led group of teens passionate about helping their community by preventing sexual violence, suicide, and digital victimization. The goals of the Council are:
Provide avenues to amplify youth voices and lived experiences in the fields of sexual violence prevention, suicide prevention, and digital safety.
Provide ongoing opportunities for youth leadership development.
Improve the effectiveness and relevance of programming for and about youth by incorporating the unique perspective and ideas of youth.
Who is eligible?
We welcome high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors from all schools as well as students who are homeschooled. Teens across the state are welcome to join!
How will the Council work?
Throughout the year, the Council will plan, organize and implement various activities to create awareness, build community, and fundraise for the Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse and Suicide and the students it serves.
Why would a student want to serve on the Council?
The goal of the Council is to provide teens with real-world leadership opportunities related to nonprofit work, sexual violence prevention, suicide prevention, and digital safety that directly impact you and your peers. This experience will help participants meet newer graduation requirements by providing a robust project-based learning experience.
What is the potential time commitment?
We anticipate one meeting every month which might last 1 to 1.5 hours to plan and work on projects. Meetings will be hybrid to allow teens who may not have transportation to participate.
