Adult Training Programs

First Response Training

One of the most important moments for a child who has been abused is when they make an initial disclosure. Your FIRST response to an initial outcry of maltreatment is the single most important step to supporting a child and making a report. FIRST Response equips you with the necessary skills to respond in a trauma-competent manner during the initial outcry. FIRST Response teaches three critical components. How to recognize signs and symptoms of abuse and maltreatment. How to listen and respond to a child's needs. How to effectively and accurately report any form of maltreatment to authorities.

Stewards of Children

Stewards of Children® is a child sexual abuse prevention program developed by the national organization Darkness to Light. This program educates adults to prevent, recognize and react appropriately to child sexual abuse. This training program is designed for parents and any adults who work with children or adolescents. Stewards of Children is the only nationally available program scientifically proven to increase knowledge, improve attitudes and change child-protective behaviors. Since September 2010, Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse and Suicide has trained over 7,000 adults!  Demand for this powerful training has grown exponentially!

Child and Teen Program

CHILDHELP SPEAK UP BE SAFE (CH SUBS) is the only evidence-based primary prevention education program of its kind for grades PK to 12. It helps children and teens learn the skills to prevent and interrupt cycles of child abuse including physical, emotional, sexual, neglect, bullying and online dangers. The lessons help students recognize unsafe situations and abusive behaviors, build resistance skills and create a responsive safety network with peers and adults that a student identifies as safe.

CH SUBS is a strengths-based curriculum that builds student knowledge, awareness, skills, and resistance strategies so they can recognize abusive situations of various types and know how to get away from them and speak up to the safe adults in their lives. Using an environmental approach, lessons build awareness, respect, and confidence so that kids are less likely to fall victim to lies, lures, tricks, and predators. Incorporating parent engagement materials and other resources, the program helps build a supportive community, so a child or teen need never feel alone in facing an issue.

In-person programming is offered to schools and youth-serving organizations within a 50-mile radius of Carmel, Indiana. Video programming can be offered to middle and high schools outside of this area.
